A weekend for two in Czechia: where to go in spring when you want peace and atmosphere

Czechia is ideal for a weekend for two. You don’t have to deal with long transfers, complicated planning or a language barrier. Just get in the car, set off for a few days and in no time you’re somewhere completely different. Spring is, in our opinion, the very best time for these trips – nature is waking up, cities aren’t overcrowded and accommodation prices are still reasonable.

Take this article as an overview and inspiration. For each of these locations we’re preparing a separate detailed article, where we’ll go more in depth – specific accommodation, route tips, restaurants, parking and real experiences from the trip.

Below you’ll find places we went to ourselves, or where we’d go again without hesitation. This isn’t any catalogue of “the best places”, but easygoing weekenders for couples, where the atmosphere, peace and time together matter. That way you can enjoy a romantic weekend in Czechia in places that are close to your home.

1. South Moravia – a romantic weekend for two among the vineyards

South Moravia is a safe bet. As soon as it warms up, everything here starts to bloom, the vineyards turn green and the whole area feels incredibly calm. Exactly the kind of place you go to slow down.

We set off by car on Friday afternoon, arrived at dusk and spent the evening with wine and a view of the vineyards. No plan, no rush. In the morning we had a slow breakfast, took a walk around and only then figured out where next.

The combination of short trips and long sit-downs works well here. In the morning you head out for a walk around Mikulov or Pálava, in the afternoon you sit down for coffee or wine and in the evening you’re in no hurry to go anywhere.

A car is a big advantage here. A lot of beautiful places are outside town centres and without a car you’d miss out on them. At the same time you never drive far, everything is pleasantly within reach.

For a weekend for two, smaller places outside the centre have worked best for us – a guesthouse or apartment, ideally with parking right by the house and some kind of view. In spring you can find very nice places for reasonable money.

2. Šumava off-season – a quiet weekend for two in nature and off-season

If you want to completely switch off and be by yourselves, Šumava works great in spring. It’s not the season yet, there are very few people and nature has a completely different atmosphere than in summer.

We had a weekend here where one day we set out on a shorter route to a lake and the next day we actually did almost nothing. Morning coffee, slow breakfast, a short walk and back to the warmth.

It’s not necessary to go on long hikes for a couple to enjoy this place. You’ll enjoy the silence, the forests and the pleasantly clean air here. Mornings tend to be cooler, but that’s exactly what makes Šumava pleasant in spring. In the evening you return to the warmth, have a glass of wine and feel like you’ve been away much longer than just a weekend.

Smaller hotels or apartments with parking right at the property are ideal. A big plus is the option of a sauna or wellness, especially if the weather turns out cooler.

3. Český Krumlov – romance, if you know when and where

Český Krumlov has a reputation as a tourist town and it’s really true. But it depends a lot on when you arrive and how you put your weekend together.

We arrived late in the afternoon, took a walk through the town after dinner and got up early the next day. In the evening and early morning, Krumlov is completely different. Empty alleys, quiet, mist over the Vltava and the feeling that you have the town almost to yourself.

During the day the centre is crowded, you have to count on that. We handled it by leaving the main walks for the morning and late morning, and around noon we moved more to the river or away from the biggest tourist bustle.

A big plus is that Krumlov offers several official parking lots right in the town or on its edge. If you don’t have parking directly at your hotel, it’s not a problem – the parking lots are well signposted and you can reach the centre on foot within a few minutes. If the accommodation offers parking, that’s of course the most comfortable option. You can recognize parking directly run by the town by the markings P1, P2, P3, P5 and P7. The higher the number, the farther it usually is from the centre, but a bit cheaper. We usually park at P1 or P2.

We recommend staying slightly outside the very centre, but within walking distance. You’ll get calmer evenings and easier parking.

4. Karlovy Vary and surroundings – a weekend for two with a spa atmosphere, forests and a slow pace

Karlovy Vary is ideal if you want to combine the city, walks and a bit of spa atmosphere. In spring it’s pleasantly calm and the whole town feels lighter than in the high season.

We parked the car, walked the colonnades, had coffee and spa wafers. Karlovy Vary offers a calm atmosphere and thanks to its size even a larger crowd of people disperses easily here.

You don’t need to have a packed schedule. It’s enough to take a walk, stop at the viewpoints and let yourself be carried along by the pace of the town.

5. Broumovsko – a hidden gem for couples

Broumovsko is exactly the kind of place you go when you want something less overrun. Rock towns, beautiful nature and a minimum of people, especially in spring.

The routes are not extremely demanding, so you’ll enjoy the trips even without much physical preparation. What we enjoyed here most was the peace and atmosphere – no queues, no stress. The biggest rock town in the region is Adršpach, where tickets and parking are booked online for a specific time slot – worth knowing before you go. If rock towns get you hooked, the second big one is in Bohemian Paradise: we walked Prachov Rocks and wrote up what admission costs and where to park.

In the evening, absolute silence arrives, which is hard to find in better-known destinations.

How to really enjoy a weekend for two in Czechia

Don’t plan every detail. Arrive in the evening and head out early in the morning instead. Avoid the main attractions at noon.
