Afrykarium is part of Zoo Wroclaw, so we get two birds with one stone – you’ll experience an amazing underwater spectacle and a beautiful walk among the animals.
Parking is right next to the Zoo. The parking lot is very large, and we are adding a link HERE. We just had to cross the bridge and we were there. We were there for less than three hours and paid 24 zlotys.
A small tip! If you buy a ticket online, you’ll pay only 69 zlotys; at the ticket office on-site, it costs 100 zlotys. Don’t forget that the ticket price is for the entire zoo, not just Afrykarium, so the price is quite affordable. Besides Afrykarium and the “classic” zoo, you’ll also see, for example, the amazing Terrarium pavilion – which captivated us the most after the aquarium.

Don’t be fooled, this space isn’t just giant aquariums full of fish – although that’s the most magical part for me. A giant domed aquarium awaits you, with fish, sharks, turtles, and many more marine creatures I can’t even name, literally swimming above your head, creating an incredible experience.
We arrived at 11 AM, so we also got a beautiful view of the hippos being fed, and around noon, the outdoor feeding of the sea lions. Yes, this aquarium hides that too. All the animals have wonderfully large spaces, both in water and on land… and so it was clear they were enjoying their stay here too. You’ll also find penguins, manatees, sea lions, and jellyfish here, for example.
We really liked that you can see the penguins and sea lions from two different perspectives. First, you greet them outside in the fresh air, and then you go down a floor within the pavilion, where you watch them through giant glass walls directly underwater.
We walked smoothly through Afrykarium all the way to the tropical pavilion, where crocodiles, exotic flowers, waterfalls, and a lot of heat welcomed us. Therefore, we RECOMMEND a cloakroom in the winter months, and it costs only 5 zlotys per piece – which is worth it, as the spaces are really pleasant, and it’s bearable in the tropical pavilion too 🙂
Right on the floor of the Afrykarium building is a restaurant (Bistro Shipwreck). It’s an ideal place for a break because you can have lunch while having the entire underwater world at your fingertips. The prices are a bit “touristy,” but the view is definitely worth it.
We visited the zoo in February, so we can’t fully assess what the entire zoo is like. We were pleasantly surprised that it’s not uphill, and from what we’ve seen, it impressed us so much that we’ll return in the summer. Especially for the giraffe enclosure, which is directly opposite the aquarium and looks absolutely stunning… What will it be like when the giraffes are there? We will update this article as soon as we visit again in the summer.
Even so, there were a large number of people. Primarily in such winter weather, people are most attracted to Afrykarium, where the entertainment is maximum. You’ll spend an hour there (two if you want to admire it more), and if you arrive at opening time (it’s at 9:00 AM), you’ll have the most peace. We arrived at eleven, and that’s bearable. However, when we left at noon, there were already plenty of people just in the entrance hall, so it was the best time to move on.
This place will captivate you with its atmosphere, even if you’re not a fan of reptiles. The Terrarium is housed in a beautiful historic building that looks like it’s from another century. Besides fascinating snakes, monitor lizards, and turtles, you’ll also find a unique “Butterfly House.” It’s an incredible experience when hundreds of colourful exotic butterflies fly around you – quite an interesting contrast to the large monitor lizards just a short distance away 🙂 So don’t forget to stop by.
We also chose a short walk around Wroclaw and needed to stay overnight in the centre for one day, including parking. We chose the hotel Kamienica Pod Aniołami, which is located about a 2-minute walk from the main centre and square. The price and amenities of this hotel are excellent, the breakfasts are good, and the hotel also offers parking in the courtyard for 40 zlotys per day, or you can park at the National Forum of Music, which is about a 3-minute walk from the hotel and costs 50 zlotys per day.
You won’t go wrong by staying anywhere in the vicinity of Rynek, Wroclaw. Poland is safe and peaceful, and the choice of location is purely up to your preference. You can see currently available accommodation below:
